The village of Canillas de Albaida is known as the pearl of the Axarquía. Its origins back to the thirteenth century. Albaida in Arabic means white.
This beautiful village is located at the foot of the natural park, and has therefore become extremely popular with those who enjoy hiking in the surrounding mountains ranges. It has a population of approximately 700 inhabitants, which grows each year. It is situated at 600m above sea level and within 20 kilometres from the Mediterranean beaches. From Canillas de Albaida you can also easily reach Cómpeta, which is within a 20 minute walk or a short drive away.
The village has a wide variety of amenities including bars and restaurants, two hotels, a campervan site, bakery, pharmacy, doctor’s surgery, primary school and much more. It offers a great bus service with numerous daily trips to the surrounding villages and down to the coast plus direct trips to Málaga.
They have numerous fiestas throughout the year, the most important being the celebration to honour the ‘Virgen del Rosario’ which takes place in August and lasts for 3 days. During this fiesta you can enjoy fantastic music, games for children, delicious food, Flamenco dancing and much more.
There are many beautiful sites to visit, such as the Ermita de Santa Ana, Ermita de San Antón, the Roman Bridge and Fábrica de la Luz.
