Iznate lies 29 kilometres from Malaga and 5 kilometres from the coastal town of Benajarafe, which is close to Torre del Mar, at an altitude of 311 metres. It is situated within the area of La Axarquía, on the scenic Route of Sun and Avocado. The village is surrounded by small hills and is irrigated by the local river. It has wonderful panoramic views over the mountain ranges. Of Moorish origin, the village layout has steep, narrow streets. The parish church of San Gregorio VII was built in the 16th century and houses several valuable paintings.
