Torrox is known for having the best climate in Europe and for its proximity to the beach, which is only 9 kilometres away. This wonderful village is situated within 13 kilometres from Nerja and 15 kilometres from Cómpeta.
Torrox population has been rapidly increasing over the previous 20 years, with an increase of approximately 5% each year; the current population is around 20.000 inhabitants.
The name Torrox seems to originate from the Arabic word Turux, which means "tower", however its origin dates back long before the Mohammedan invasion.
In December, Torrox have a big celebration with live music and dancing. They cook up a feast for all visitors which consists of ‘migas’ (fried bread crumbs) and ‘ensaladilla arriera’ (salad). It is a well known fiesta and people travel from afar to enjoy this tradition.
Whilst in Torrox, you can visit Torrox Costa. The coastal promenade has a large variety of shops and restaurants, along with an extensive beach.
